Current Projects
Portage
Avenue Revitalization Project
In the fall of 2003 the NNN began its biggest project to date - the
Portage Avenue Revitalization project. This project included the acquisition
of five new homes on the West side of Portage Avenue - three of which
have already been rehabbed and one which is slated to be rehabbed some
time this fall. The fifth home was sold to a young married couple who
has begun to work on it themselves.
In addition to
these homes, the NNN has recently contracted with Weiss Homes to begin
construction of two new houses in the neighborhood - including one house
on the East side of Portage right across the street from the other five
homes.
Lindsey Avenue Revitalization
The NNN has rehabbed several homes on Lindsey Avenue and is currently
in the process of rehabbing two more. These homes are available for
purchase at this time and will be ready for move-in shortly.
Cottage
Grove Revitalization
The NNN is excited
to begin rehabilitation projects on the 600 block of Cottage Grove.
In addition to completely rehabbing several homes, the NNN intends convert
several now-duplexes back to their originally single family home status.
New Construction:
In the summer of 2004 the NNN announced the New Construction Homebuyers Programwhich
provides another homeownership opportunity for qualified income eligible
homebuyers. Through the production of new
housing, the NNN also hopes to strengthen the economic vitality of the neighborhood. So far, two new homes have been built by the NNN.
The homes being
built have each had three bedrooms, two and a half baths, full basements
and include several major appliances. In order to be certain the style
would fit the character of the neighborhood, the NNN Construction Committee
researched and reviewed the design of the new housing with the agreed
upon design having a full front porch and shakes in the gables, to mimic
some of the neighborhood's architectural character.
