The Safety Committee
The Safety Committee
meets in conjunction with the Regional Crime Meetings the first Thursday
of every month at 6:00 pm, here at the NNN offices. Sgt. Tom Cameron,
our regional coordinator for the Northwest part of the city, is present
to answer questions and to give input to our discussions.
The goal of the
Safety Committee is to work to enhance neighborhood security. Committee
projects have included distributing information on countering illegal
activities in the neighborhood, facilitating the growth of Neighborhood
Watch Programs, and developing strategies for increased collaboration
between residents and the Police Department.
In January 2004, the
committee met to discuss goals for the coming year. Concerns neighbors
ranked as a high priority were:
- Using the NNN as an information center
to collect information to pass on to police
- Increasing participation
in Neighborhood Watch
- Re-creating block clubs where neighbors get to
know their neighbors
- Working with Crime Watch to assigned HUD funded
police foot and bike patrols in our area
- Developing a list of landlords/worst properties so we could work in conjunction
with Police and code enforcement to help neighbors resolve problems
with rental properties.
